Trombone Shorty

I just got back to Rhode Island a lit bit ago- I spent most of the drive back reflecting on the amazing weekend that I had! Ashley, being the amazing generous friend that she is, got me a ticket to a concert in NYC for my birthday (as well as the cutest owl necklace and an awesome mix cd!!) SO- On friday I drove to Poughkeepsie and me Ashley and her roommate Annie all took the train into New York City. We met Steph at the Empire State Building where she works and we all took the T into Brooklyn where Steph lives. We all got ready for the night and headed back on in to the city where we made our way to the Highline Ballroom where we were going to see the Ryan Montbleau Band open for Trombone Shorty. The truth is, we were going to see the Ryan Montbleau band but it just so happens that Trombone Shorty far exceeded our expectations. The concert was OUT OF THIS WORLD! The crowd was prettty weak in the beggining, but that did not stop us from dancing and singing to all of the songs. As the show went on, the crowd got more into it and by that time we were dancing our pants off. Ryan Montbleau played some awesome songs and they are really great performers. Trombone shorty is a band made up of instruments including the trombone (obvi), saxaphone, keyboard and an assortment of drums. They really know how to entertain a crowd. not only was the music fabulous but they just had an energy that is hard to describe. and their dance moves were simply amazing, probabaly because they were minimal but it was hilarious to see their synchronized feet movements. At one point in the concert they walked off the stage down into the crowd and single file played their way through the crowd, it was AH-MAZZZING. Check our their tour dates and if they are playing around you i HIGHLY recommend attending! Above are a a few pictures of the girls, ryan montbleau and a cut off pic of trombone shorty. So anyway, after the concert we mingled about a little bit and ended up going to a bar to grab some drinks. After that we met up with one of the members from trombone shorty at a bar called the brass monkey and got some drinks there. Once 4 am hit and the bars started closing we took a cab back to Stephs in Brooklyn and hit the sack. The next day we roamed around brooklyn and hit up some awesome thrift shops. unfortunately my budget did not allow me to purchase any of the amazing items i spotted but it was fun to look. Brooklyn is awesome, i never expected it to be like that. I ruled out new york city after hating it so much when I went to FIT but Brooklyn is such a managable place to live- its very cool! Later that day we headed back into the city and went to Loehmans, an off price retailer that has some great clothing. again, unfortunately i could not buy anything but I know that I really want to go back and shop around there, 4 floors of amazingness. We also met up with our highschool friend Jack which was great. He's a hilarious human being and it is really fun to be around him! :)
Finally we left the city and headed back to poughkeepsie, got food, watched the movie I love you Beth Cooper and went to bed. Very relaxed night which was nice after such a crazy night prior to. All and all and excellent weekend! A weekend full of excitement and fun and thing to do to get my mind off of less fun and exciting things that might perhaps have occupied some space in my mind.
