Wearable Art

This is a piece of work done by Dina Knapp . The art to wear movement began in the 1960's and has been flourishing ever since. I think its absolutely fabulous that artists and fashion designers can mesh into one in works considered 'wearable art' Can you imagine the patience and difficulty involved in creating a piece of work such as this. Dina Knapp, an innovator in the wearable art movement, began after she spent a day crocheting 20 hats and realized that she could do something with this newfound talent. This blossomed into a deep passion that produced pieces that were executed by crocheting, stuffing, stitching, knitting and other creative techniques. There are many other artists/designers that floated in the middle and broke the boundary between art and fashion. It became possible for handcrafted garments to be considered unique pieces of art. How Fabulous! Julie Schafler has a gallery located in New York City that exhibits pieces of wearable art that is still open to this day. I encourage you to take a look! It's very inspiring.
